Admissions Overview
Steps of the Admissions Process
The admissions process begins with completing the Schedule a Tour form and a tour of the school.
After you have toured the school, you may submit an admissions application.
Following receipt of the application:
-
You will be contacted to set up an admissions interview/parent class observation.
-
For children ages 4 and older, a visit to a classroom, along with a brief educational screening, will be scheduled.
Once the admissions interview and student visit have been completed, you will be notified about acceptance.
If your child has been offered acceptance, you will receive an enrollment contract in the mail. You will need to complete the enrollment agreement by the specified date and return it with the enrollment deposit of $1,000 to secure a space for your child.
Special Considerations
Priority Applicants
Siblings of currently enrolled students, as well as children with previous Montessori background, are given priority to the limited number of spaces we have in our classrooms. Part of what makes this model so successful is the long-term process of education and growth that Montessori is famous for. We have a commitment to our community to ensure its success by doing everything we can to create a diverse and stable environment.
Age/Level Requirements
Young Children’s Community: (Ages 18 months to 3 years)
In addition to being at least 18 months old, children beginning this program should be demonstrating their desire for independence. It is also helpful for parents to be willing to encourage these early steps towards self-sufficiency.
Primary: (Ages 3 to 5)
Applicants should be at least age three by the school year for which he or she is applying, although sometimes exceptions are made for younger students.
- Primary students must have toilet independance prior to starting school.
Elementary and Intermediate: (Ages 6 through 8th grade)
Teacher recommendations and the child’s transcript should be sent directly from the child’s current school or teacher. We will supply you with the list of needed reports depending on the age/level of your child. It is important we receive these before your scheduled interview so we can be prepared to talk to you about your child and how we can all best serve his or her needs.
Admissions Interview and Parent Observation
Admissions interviews and parent observations are scheduled on designated days and last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. During this time, both parents participate in a meeting with the Head of School and take part in classroom observations. This is an opportunity to further explore the philosophy of the school, ask questions and determine if Butler Montessori is a good match for your child and family.
Student Visit and Screening
A date and duration (half or full day) is scheduled for prospective students ages 4 and older to visit in a classroom. This visit allows both the child and guide (teacher) a chance to get to know each other and provides an opportunity for the guide to observe the child’s synergy in the classroom. During this time, a brief educational screening will be done by our educational specialist.
Acceptance and Enrollment
Following the parents’ admissions interview and the child’s visit you will be contacted once a decision is made. This process can take up to two weeks.
If your child has been offered acceptance, you will be mailed an enrollment contract.
Your completed contract and all requested documents must be returned with your nonrefundable $1,000 enrollment deposit by the specified date to secure a space for your child.
Contracts received after the specified date will be accepted as long as there is still space available.
Re-Enrollment and Deposits
Each subsequent year, re-enrollment contracts will be offered on Feb. 1 and are due back no later than March 1.
If you do not wish to re-enroll, you must notify the school in writing by March 1 for your deposit to be returned; otherwise, your deposit is non-refundable.
Enrollment deposits will be returned in April of the last year that your child is enrolled in Butler Montessori.
